Falling 2024

Summer has surrendered to fall. Life has passed me by this year. My patio business has been brisk and has required much of my attention since April. We need to eat and pay bills, so during this season of my life, I am required to pay close attention to that effort.

I just finished a 7000-word short story for an anthology titled "Visions,"which should be out before the end of the year. That story takes place on Ganymede 650 years in the future. It was fun to write.

I have four speaking engagement lined up for the next few months at private events for those dealing with addictions as well as running a small group for the next five months.

Progress on new books has continued. One book is being edited, while two others are well into the plotting phase to be written this winter- if I get my way. My writing plan for this fall/winter/spring season is centered around two new works. One story is called Dark Heart, the third book in the "What The Eye Beholds" series. It's the continuing story of a family thrown into a galactic struggle to help people survive during chaotic times. In Dark Heart, a sinister force comes from Earth. It rises to power over the human settlers on Mars while being shielded by the darkness of an apparent death. This outer space story line is introduced in Inverted (Book Two of What The Eye Beholds), which should be released in December, but it's all a continuation of the battle that began in Charity's Fire.

The second story plot is called Faded Grace. It is set in a near dystopian future. The protagonist is a wandering homeless soul who happens upon a dilapidated church building out in the sticks of Michigan's thumb. When he decides to camp on the grounds of the old building, he begins having strange dreams and can't stop thinking about things he hasn't dealt with in a long time. He starts repairing the old place and can't shake the nightly invasion of his thoughts, even when a lonely kid appears on the scene. Then others start showing up, and some begin having the vivid dreams, too. When the cops get involved, they round up the ringleader and chase the rest of the squatters off. Time and distance cannot kill the dream once the seed has been implanted, but to what end? Could a group of misfits, outcasts, and criminals be the ones to lead the resurgence of this broken-down place in a broken-down world, or will the upstanding and powerful members of the community prevail in sabotaging the way to God for the outcasts and rejects of society?
